Protecting your identity goes hand in hand with controlling your money. Identity theft occurs when a person steals you social security number, your credit account numbers and other personal information and begins making transaction on your name.

 

 

How to Avoid It

  • Verify the transactions that appear on your account statements.

  • Before throwing to the garbage documents with credit information or personal information, destroy them.

  • Check your mail. Don't leave letters in your mailbox for prolonged periods of time.

  • Check your credit history to detect unauthorized accounts.

  • Don't provide personal information such as your account number, social security or
    credit card account numbers over the phone to unknown parties.

Contact any of the credit agencies and ask them to put a fraud alert on your report.

• File a police report and get a copy of it.


• Contact the creditor of each account that has been falsified or opened under your name,
