Fundación Banco Popular de Puerto Rico

What is an “Employee Liaison”?

Fundación Banco Popular receives a variety of proposals from not-for-profit organizations with bases in the community. Among the factors that are considered as part of the proposal evaluation process is whether or not the applying organization has an employee liaison.

A liaison is a Popular Inc. employee who knows the work of Fundación Banco Popular and is also involved with the work of a community organization. The liaison concept is one that involves:

    • Knowing and participating in the work of a community organization
    • Communicating the activities and achievements of said organization within his/her company

A significant part of the liaison’s role is determined by the individual employee. Even if the liaison is only able to dedicate a few hours a week or a month to work with an organization, it is important that he/she be able to provide information of the work being done by the organization, its participants and its programs.

The relationship with the organization carries with it a personal commitment. It is extremely important to visit the organization and create trust with its leaders so that the liaison is known by them as well as by the community. Should it be necessary, the liaison should defend them in front of any and all forums and be their representative in the face of other organizations to help them cover the needs that they have. Being a liaison means having a passion for helping people, being generous and giving the best that is within our reach.

A liaison may support an organization in a variety of ways, for example:

    • Attending the organization’s activities
    • Being part of the board of directors or of a committee
    • Doing volunteer work in one of the organization’s programs
    • Provide assistance with fundraising efforts for a particular need
    • Provide support to the organization by serving as a liaison with other organizations
    • Help in identifying and presenting proposals: state, federal or to other foundations
    • Search for a way to make the organizations known to our colleagues and executives
    • Serve as a mentor to children and youth
